Now, it seems that there was a gentleman called Harry “Haywire” McClintock who wrote a song called “Big Rock Candy Mountain” at the turn of the last century. Some say, 1928.
It is based on some of the fairy tales that he heard while growing up. It does represent a hobo’s ideal view of the world, of paradise.
I heard this while watching “Better Call Saul”. Episode 6 or 7, I think of Season 4. The version I head was sung by Burl Ives, who was an absolutely brilliant singer.
Anyway, here are two versions. One, a beautiful, innocent one. The other, also beautiful, by Burl Ives.
I must thank Saul for this one.
I hope you all enjoy a beautiful bit of Americana
And, here is one version, with yodelling, from Sourdough Slim!
And finally, this one that seems to feature Harry McClintock himself!
Oh my gosh. I love this song and also Better Call Saul. I loved him in Breaking Bad. I love this fun song! Great post-Rajiv.
It is a great old song!
Where are you digging up these old gems, Rajiv?

Ah. This one came from Saul. Sometimes, when I am editing photos, I look for some nice stuff!
