Here is some more stuff. Away with the philosophy and, on to some fun music
The first is a song from 1957, called Eena Meena Deeka. The singer in the video – Kishore Kumar – actually did sing the song. Kishore was one of India’s greatest singers, yet in the company that he had, he was considered to be a relative lightweight. That was the time when we had some super chaps.
Kishore anyway, was a brilliant singer and actor in his own right.
Years later, when I was living in Shanghai, his son came and sang on Diwali. At the end of the show, he sang Eena Meena Deeka, and we went wild!
The one below, is from the 1960’s, and is from a movie called “Padosan”. Padosan means ‘lady neighbour’. The movie was great fun.
The hero falls in love with his neighbour, and wants to woo her. Her ‘pandit’, played by the great comedian Mehmood also likes her. She challenges the hero to a singing match, and the hero can’t sing. So, his ‘guru’ – played by Kishore Kumar – hides behind him and sings for him!
This one below, is from 1958. The dancer is a lady called Helen, who made a long career in Hindi cinema, as a dancer and ‘vamp’. Those days are over. Yet, in real life, she was an extremely dignified woman.
And, the one below, is from one of the greatest Indian films – Sholay. From the 1970’s
The song was a massive hit. Again, Helen is the dancer. So, as you can see, she had a dancing career of about 20 years, if not more.
This film also launched the career of a spectacular actor, now dead, Amjad Khan.
Hope y’all enjoy this stuff!
