Ed’s History Challenge. A Brick In The Wall?

Here is my submission for this week’s history challenge.

This one may seem a bit odd, and may seem to have echoes of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”, but no.

This is a section of the Kashmere Gate, one of the gates of the Walled City of Delhi. I shall write more about this next week, with a picture of the Gate

However, the reason for the bricks, is to show the original bricks that were used in the construction, around 1640 AD, versus the new bricks that were used during the repair of the gate.

The original bricks, seen in the top left hand corner, are flatter. This is very much the nature of the bricks that were used in old construction. The bricks that are used these days are thicker. The thinner bricks allowed for the construction of the graceful arches, which are difficult to reproduce now.
